Smart Water Sensor

2017
Role : Project/Design Lead, Pensa
From research to pre-production design

It is estimated that 1 out of every 5 toilets in NYC is leaking. Lotik wireless sensors provide point-of-use water monitoring to track water usage and detect leaks before they happen. This is particularly useful for building owners so they can gain new transparency with usage and avoid costly water damage. Pensa worked with the team at Lotik to design their flagship product to be a clean and simple icon for smart sensing.
The Lotik sensor’s clean and simple design complements modern bathrooms and kitchens in homes and buildings. The outer white gloss shell speaks to the smart protective nature of the product and blends in with its surroundings. All sensor components are water, humidity and tamper-proof and the shell is easily wiped off when cleaning.
In order to get accurate readings on a wide variety of plumbing scenarios the Lotik sensor needs to be very flexible and easy to deploy in a wide variety of locations including tight and sometimes invisible spots. The final product was created for quick one-handed attachment operation, no tools required.
